Foreword is a writing & long-form research app. We've been making it, more or less the same way, for twelve years.
"Twelve years before the AI boom, we asked: what if writing tools respected attention? We're still asking."
The product hasn't fundamentally changed since 2017. The data model is the same. The keybindings are the same. The export formats are the same. We add things slowly. We remove almost as often as we add.
Every line of code we ship goes through a single filter — does this respect the reader's attention? — and most lines don't survive it. That's deliberate. It's also why we're still here.
Wrote the original sync engine in 2014 from a flat in Ljubljana. Still maintains it. Mostly answers the bug reports too.
Designs every margin and every keystroke. Believes most software is too loud. Tests on his grandmother's iPad.
Runs support, contracts, payroll, the team account, the newsletter. Reads every email a customer sends.
No AI in the product. No AI on this page. Just three of us writing about writing tools.
We don't think AI suggestions belong in the writing surface. We don't think AI summaries belong on top of your own notes. We don't think AI features should appear in the next twelve product updates. We've decided this for our team and we're keeping the decision public.
If you want a tool that drafts for you, there are great ones now. We're not one of them. Foreword is for people who already know what they want to say and need a calm room to say it in.
No proof strip. We're not going to put four numbers in a horizontal band to convince you. The number of customers we have isn't a reason to use the app.
No integration grid. The app does one thing. There is no "Notion integration coming soon."
No testimonial wall. If you want to know what people think, our newsletter archive is public and the link is below.
No comparison table. We're not in a category fight. Pick the tool that fits your hand.
An unhurried changelog. 39 entries since 2014. We're proud of how short it is.
A real address. Letters work; we like getting them.
If this sounds like a tool you'd keep, you can try it.
